Journal Roll
The journal roll lets you read and write the days before a journal entry without leaving its tab. Under the entry's text and its Backlinks, a bar names the previous day you wrote on: Scroll down for 2026-10-10. Keep scrolling, or select the bar, and that day opens below it, with its own backlinks and its own bar for the day before. Days with nothing written are skipped.
The roll works from any journal entry, today's or an older one, and from a day you have not written yet. It only goes back in time: the entry the tab opened is always the newest day in it.
Reading and writing older days
- Each older day is a full editor. Click into it and type, and the change is saved to that day.
- While the cursor is in an older day, the Backlinks panel, the command bar and the
/menu act on that day. The tab keeps the name and address of the entry it opened. - The bar above an older day shows its date. Open opens the day in its own tab, and Hide closes it and every older day below it.
On a phone, swipe up past the bar to load the day, or tap the bar.
From the keyboard
Type / in a journal entry and choose Show older entry: the next older day opens below
whatever is open already, and the focus moves to its bar. From the bar, Tab reaches Hide,
Open and then the day's text. A bar that names a day you have not opened yet loads it on
Enter.
Limits
- Up to ten older days open in one tab. After that the bar reads Open and the date, and opens that day in its own tab, where you can keep rolling back.
- The roll is not remembered. Reloading the page, or switching tabs on a phone, shows the entry with its bar closed again.
- A day written on another device, or added by an import, shows up in a bar that has not been opened yet. Days already open stay as they are until you hide them.
