| Journal entry | The document for one calendar day, named by its date. Journal Entries |

| Draft | The editable surface a name with no page opens as; it becomes a document when you type. Pages And Wikilinks |
| Wikilink | [[Name]]: a link from one document to another. Pages And Wikilinks |
| Concept | What a name refers to. It exists as soon as something links to it, before it has a page |
| Alias | Another name a page answers to. Titles Aliases And Frontmatter |
| Scoped concept | A name that contains another link, [[[[Physics]] Quantum Mechanics]]. Scoped Concepts |
| Backlink | A document that links to the one you are reading. Backlinks |
| Block | A bullet and the lines and bullets nested under it. Outliner Blocks |
| Frontmatter | The --- block at the top of a document holding its title, aliases and publishing keys. Titles Aliases And Frontmatter |
| Task | A bullet with a checkbox. Task tags carry its priority, state and dates. Tasks |
| Asset | An image or file stored with the graph. Images And Files |
| Quick note | A thought captured in the sidebar and later moved into the journal. Quick Notes |

| Protected document | A page encrypted under your protection passphrase, readable only when unlocked. Protected Documents |
| Protection passphrase, protection key | The passphrase you choose, and the random key it wraps. Protected Documents |
| Locked, hidden | A protected document with its key discarded, or with its contents off screen while the key is held. Protected Documents |
